Scholarship Opportunities

Islamic Society of North America Scholarships 

Every year, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) awards several need-based scholarships to students for their college studies. The awards are based on academic performance, community development work, and other similar factors. The online application process is run through Award Spring, and the ISNA Scholarships Committee makes the final selections.

The APSA Minority Fellows Program (MFP)

The Minority Fellows Program (MFP) is a fellowship competition for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds applying to or in the early stages of doctoral programs in political science. Eligible applicants must: be a racial minority; be a US citizen, US national, US permanent resident (holder of a Permanent Resident Card), or an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA) at the time of application; and, demonstrate an interest in teaching and potential for research in political science. Fund for Latino Scholarship 

The Fund for Latino Scholarship’s priority is to provide  travel assistance to young scholars and institutional proposals for student recruitment and retention. Latino/a scholars (whatever their research field), and all scholars (including non-Latinos/as) who are studying Latino politics in the U.S., are eligible for support. Travel grants and most research grants will be for $500. Under exceptional circumstances, a grant of up to $1,000 may be awarded. Applicants often utilize this grant to travel to the annual meeting of the American Political Science Association.

The Association on American Indian Affairs 

The Association on American Indian Affairs has been providing Native American student scholarships since 1947 and provides scholarships to undergraduate and graduate Native American students who are citizens/ members of their Tribal Nation – whether or not their Nation is recognized by the federal government.

The Point Foundation Flagship Scholarship 

The Flagship Scholarship is for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students earning a degree. Point considers many factors when assessing scholarship applicants, including leadership and community involvement, academic achievement, LGBTQ advocacy, and financial need.

The Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund 

The APIA Scholarship is our largest scholarship program, open to AANHPI undergraduate students attending any U.S. accredited university or college. Scholarship amounts range from $2,500 one-year awards to $20,000 multi-year awards. APIA Scholars has a special focus on supporting AANHPI students who live at or below the poverty line; are in the first generation of their family to attend college; are representative of the APIA community’s diversity, (geographically and ethnically}, especially those ethnicities that have been underrepresented on college campuses due to limited access and opportunity. Strong applicants would also have an emphasis on community service and leadership.

Research Grants: 

APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants 

The APSA Diversity and Inclusion Advancing Research Grants provide support for the advancement of scholars from underrepresented groups and for research that examines political science phenomena affecting underserved communities and underrepresented groups. 

Women’s Research and Education Institute Fellowships 

The Women’s Research and Education Institute awards annual Congressional Fellowships on Women and Public Policy. Each recipient receives a monthly stipend of $1,300, plus another $500 to buy health insurance. The fellowships are reserved for graduate students working towards equity for women. Award recipients gain firsthand policymaking experience and graduate credits working from January through August as Congressional legislative aides in Washington, D.C
